2 MONDAY, APRIL 16, 2018 ADVERTISING SUPPLEMENT TO THE NEWS-PRESS 2 PHYS I I A NSREHAB I I TAT I ON COM PROVEN KNEE ARTHRITIS TREATMENT Currently, an estimated 27 million people suf- fer from knee osteoarthritis, making it one of the most common causes of disability in the US. It is estimated by the year 2030, 72 million Americans will be at high risk for osteoarthritis. Patients with chronic joint pain often think nothing can be done to help them except surgery. A person with knee pain knows how often it gets in the way of doing the things they want and need to do in daily life. Because the knee is a weight bearing joint, knee pain affects almost everything we do that requires mobility, including those things most of us have usually taken for granted.

For many knee pain makes it hurt to walk, stand, stoop, get out of a chair, or to go up or down stairs. Additionally, routine activities of living, work, so-cial and recreational activities are often inhibited, or avoided because of knee pain. If you have been suffering from constant or in-termittent knee pain that just go away no matter how much ibuprofen you take, worry-there is another option. The American Academy of Rheumatology recom-mends the use of hyaluronic acid for treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. This procedure has been shown to be successful in alleviating pain associated with osteoarthritis and is covered by most major medical insurance providers and Medicare.

In addition to this recommendation, a recent randomized case study of 384 of Physician patients found that nearly reported or higher pain reduction. At Physicians Rehabilitation, very important to understand we are not just addressing knee pain. Our goal is to give you the best chance we possibly can of Preventing Knee Replacement Surgery in the future, which is what knee arthritis frequent-ly evolves into if left undetected and unaddressed. We are proud to offer a less invasive approach to relieving knee pain and to avoid surgery. For this reason, we encourage you to schedule an appointment to determine if you are a candidate for Viscosupplementation treatment for knee ar- thritis, you can always have more radical proce- dures performed later, if necessary.

However, with knee replacement surgery, once done there is no turning back to a more conser- vative approach. Knee replacement surgery is indeed necessary for some people with extreme conditions that Viscosupplementation is unable to help, but as we have seen with many of our pa- tients the results are astounding. FDA Approved Treatment for Knee Arthritis Offered Locally A Total Knee Replacement is a very extreme mea- sure to take without considering all your options for a condition as common as knee arthritis. As with any surgery, knee replacement surgery car- ries risks. There is a chance with knee replacement surgery to experience the following post-surgical complications: Infection Blood clots in the leg vein or lungs attack Stroke damage reactions to anesthesia Post surgical pain Another risk of knee replacement surgery is fail- ure of the artificial joint.

With daily use, even the strongest metal and plastic parts eventually wear out. Joint failure risk is higher if you stress the joint with high-impact activities or excessive weight. Even if you have tried all other non-surgical treat- ment methods and your pain continues to limit your activities, viscosupplementation may be an option. AVOID KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY In this procedure, a gel-like fluid called hyaluronic acid is injected into the knee joint. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the sy- novial fluid surrounding joints.

It acts as a lubricant to enable bones to move smoothly over each other and as a shock absorber for joint loads. People with osteoarthritis have a lower-than-normal concen- tration of hyaluronic acid in their joints. The theory is that adding hyaluronic acid to the arthritic joint will facilitate movement and reduce pain. Our In-Office Knee Pain Protocol is designed to specifically target your knee arthritis pain to re- duce symptomatology and improve functionality. Insurance companies now requires viscosupple- mentation before approving knee surgery.

Did you know that our knee protocol is cov- ered by most insurances including Medicare, United Healthcare, Aetna and Cigna? Be Aware of the Risks Associated with Knee Replacement Surgery CALL TODAY FOR A NO COST TO YOU, NO OBLIGATION CONSULTATION TO SEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR ONE OF OUR PAIN RELIEF PROGRAMS. COVERED BY MOST INSURANCE PLANS INCLUDING MEDICARE AND UNITED HEALTHCARE. Insurance companies require clinics to deliver a course of HA therapy that fails before attaining approval for total knee joint replacement surgery. They do not specify which HA protocol to deliver. If you have tried other treatments and ex- perienced little to no relief, you may still be a candidate for our treatment program.

I tried this therapy before. Why it work? One reason could be that the injected hyaluron- ic acid gel may have missed penetrating the joint space properly. For this reason we use Fluoros- copy guided needle placement by first injecting a contrast dye to verify proper joint penetra- tion while watching a real time digital imaging screen, before injecting the hyaluronic acid gel. Immediately after injecting the gel, we fit our patients with a custom designed knee brace. This light weight brace is fitted to provides gen- tle pressure on the knee to help spread the bone- on-bone joint to allow the space necessary for the gel to lubricate the joint properly.

I was told that if a single HA injection work, knee surgery is my best option. Why? Our protocol is to inject the knee 5 times over a six week period to insure the best opportunity for the supplement to provide cushioning and to en- courage your body to start producing hyaluronic acid on your own as the healing process proceeds. In addition, we use a high quality HA that is thicker than others so it stays in place and include knee bracing and physical therapy to further aid in the healing process. This protocol has been proven to work extremely well in a randomized case study. In our experience it takes more than one injection for this protocol to work.
