Miss Darvas most recently won critical acclaim for her protrayals of a bedridden 96- year-old woman whiling away the hours with her reminiscences and dreams in the Hungarian film "Love," shown here last year, and of the elderly Rachel in Hans Werner Henze's "Rachel, La Cubana," which was presented by "Wnet Opera Theater" last March. SMITH 77, president of Johnson MARVIN G. McALISTER Marvin G. McAlister, 66, of 1556 Linhart Ave. died Monday after a long illness. Born in Weldon, Iowa, he first came to Florida in the early 1920s, attending schools in St.

Petersburg and Tampa. As a young man he worked as a reporter on Peoria and Springfield, 111. newspapers, becoming city editor of the Springfield Register. At onset of World War I1 he became regional director of the Office of War Information for the Midwest states, before joining the Navy. At the beginning of the Korean conflict, he helped form the National Production Authority allocating war materials.

Subsequently he spent six years as head of the Asia Foundation in Burma and the Philippines, returning to the states to retire and farm near Edina, Mo. In 1960 he returned to Florida by boat, living first at the Fort Myers Yacht Basin and then, after a two-year stint with the public relations firm of Milburn McCarty and Associates of New York as head of the African Divison, he returned to Florida, living for eight years at Fort Myers Beach and moving 10 Fort Myers two years ago. He is survived by his wife, Lois; one daughter, Mrs. Harold Abbott (Nancy) of Fort Myers, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, James.

Private funeral arrangements are being handled by Leo W. Engelhardt Funeral Home. Friends may call at the home. The family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetic Assoc. 18 East 48th New York City or the Fort Myers Beach Public Library.

ROBERT E. LEE Robert E. Lee, 58, of 6744 Winkler Road died Monday at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville. A native of York City, he came here in 1962 from Tulsa, Okla. For over 25 years he was associated with Zale's Jewelers in co managerial capacity.

He was vice-president and a member of Temple Beth-El. He was a member of B.P.O.E. 1288, Fort Myers, the Jewish Post of the American Legion, St. Petersburg, and Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Mrs.

Pamela L. Golden Atlanta, a son, David M. Lee of Fort Myers; one sister, Mrs. Amelia L. Bernthan of Pittsburgh, and two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Metz Funeral Home of Cape Coral by Rabbi Simon Friedeman of Temple Beth-El. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. EVELYN J. HILL Evelyn J.
