It's at least as good as seeing Emmitt Smith ly wind his way down a football field! Russian angst If you like challenging theater, get tickets to iTheatre Conspiracy's "Petia" before it sells out.

This is the last weekend for the intriguing play about Tchaikovsky, composer of "Swan Lake" and "The Nutcracker." "Petia," by Ray Hamby, was the winner of Theatre Conspiracy's first play contest, and this is its world premiere. And though uneven and a little too talky at times, "Petia" certainly provides enough dramatic moments and plenty of food for thought. You might think a play about a long-dead Russian composer is guaranteed boredom; in fact, it's not. It deals with flesh-and-blood issues: trust, betrayal, homosexuality. Robert Black and Greg Benedict play a great drunk scene, and Jennie Hollander's stately as Tchaikovsky's benefactor.

But we found Michael McNally's portrayal of Tchaikovsky a little too prissy for our taste. And Hamby's script doesn't make it clear whether Tchaikovsky is a rapist, though he's put on trial for the crime. Despite its shortcomings, "Petia" is well worth seeing. (Don't go if you're the type that's easily offended.) "Petia" can be seen at Foulds Theatre, Lee County Alliance of the Arts, 10091 McGregor Fort Myers. Tickets are $14.

Sure it's a novelty, and last week's Las Vegas-y show was more entertainment than art, but the audience loved it. Hey, sometimes you just feel like gorging on junk food, and Steve Love was the equivalent of eating Twmkies while reading a Danielle Steele novel. The program contained everything from ballet to hip-hop to Lunch 1 1 :30 3:00 Mon.

He danced hip-hop on skates, moon-walking, doing back flips and tap dancing, and gave the best Michael Jackson imitation we've seen. Blue Lotus blooms 1 Lawrence Voytek's floating sculpture, "Blue Lotus," was dedicated at the Lee County Alliance of the Arts last Friday.

A huge helium balloon was supposed to lift off the cloth covering the piece (a la Christo) but the wind tangled the fabric in the artwork, Voytek, dressed in a Day-Glo orange shirt and blue pants, had to row a boat out to his work to free the cloth. He climbed over the piece like a kid on the monkey bars while bemused gallery attendees looked on. The cloth extricated, the balloon lifted off "Blue Lotus." Everyone applauded. Voytek climbed back into the boat and rowed back to shore. The piece was previously on exhibit as part of this winters enLIGHTened art show.

Artist Robert Rauschenberg generously purchased the sculpture and donated it to ne alliance. You can see its friendly blue glow when you drive past the alliance on McGregor Boulevard. Doo-wop doo-wop Dr. Doo-Wop, whose Sunday afternoon show on WOLZ 95.3 FM, "Street Corner Bop With Dr. Doo-Wop," celebrated his second anniversary on the air this Sunday.

Not bad for an amateur who did nis first radio show as a lark. We like hearing the sweet harmonizing of groups from the '50s ano '60s, and all those gorgeous New Yawk accents from the people wno call in requests. Happy anniversary, Doc.
