Friends may gather with the family from 6 8 p.m. Friday at Harvey- New The Associated Press MIAMI King got a new home for Christmas. For 20 years, the 450-pound western lowland silverback gorilla lived in a 40-by-15 foot cage at Miami's Monkey Jungle.

Three days after Christmas, King's stepped into his new home a $100,000 re-creation of an oval-shaped hardwood hammock that's almost the size of a football field. "My heart sunk into my stomach when he exited that door," said Sharon DuMond, owner of Monkey Jungle. A crowd of about 30 of King's human friends, contractors and family members of the Monkey Jungle staff gathered outside the fence to watch the gorilla check out his new home. "I think everybody's heart stopped for a said Monkey Jungle director Steve Jacques. John Coe, who designed King's habitat, said he chose to leave the enclosure in its natural state so King could manicure it to his own liking.

Soon after moving into the new home, King started pulling out vines, moving logs around and digging up soil. "It's so wonderful to see him walk out, to look around. It's a nice feeling to see him play with the dirt and the roots and see him cut his own vines and leaves that he wants to eat," said Tina Casquarelli, King's personal trainer. The designer incorporated the cage into the habitat to make sure King would feel at home. "He made his little nest in his favorite spot, 20 feet from the door where he's not visible to people," said DuMond.

"We wanted to make sure he felt secure at all times." King's owners introduced him to the habitat "baby step by baby First, he was allowed to Rev. Tom MacMillan officiating. In Loving Memory of ALBERT MARTINI III God did not promise 'Sun without 'Light without darkness' or Joy without pain'He only promised us 'Strength for the day'.

when 'the darkness' comes and we lose our fair, we often forget to kneel down in prayer, For God seems much closer and needed much more when trouble and sorrow stand outside our door For then we seek shelter in His wondrous love, and we ask Him to send us help from above And that is the reason we know it is true that bright shinning hours and dark, sad ones, too Are part of the plan God made for each one, and all we can pray is 'THY WILL BE DONE! Albert, We think of you not only this day but each and everyday that God gives us. We love you, we miss you. You're forever in our hearts. 1 I believe he went back in there to check on it," said Jacques. Construction on the habitat began last January, and the gorilla's release was delayed a couple of times. King's release has been a center of interest for years as Animal Rights Foundation, The Progressive Animal Welfare Society and others campaigned relentlessly to obtain King's release from the confinement of his cage. Celebrities, including primatologist Jane Goodall and former Saturday Night Live cast member Kevin Nealon, lobbied for his release. State Rep.

Christopher Smith, D-Fort Lauderdale, also urged the transfer of King to Zoo Atlanta. DuMond fought to keep King at Monkey Jungle. She chose Coe to design the habitat because he was instrumental in designing Zoo Atlanta, known as the premier facility in the world for socializing once-solitary male gorillas in a natural habitat. Even with the new habitat, animal rights activists are still concerned about King's welfare. "I really feel it ignores the issue that King is still alone.

It's definitely an improvement. That's for sure," said Brett Wyker, outreach coordinator for Animal Rights Foundation. "He needs more space, yes, but more importantly, he needs a DuMond argues that it's difficult to give King a companion because his teeth were removed before her mother bought him in 1979. Aside from caving King's mouth inward, it took away his natural means to assert dominance, mainly toward females. DuMond said she may try to find a docile female as a companion once she knows King is completely comfortable in his new home.

Judge refuses to keep Boris Becker's case private The Associated Press MIAMI A family court judge Thursday denied Boris Becker's request to have his wife's alimony and child support case conducted in private. Judge Maynard Gross said he did find "even competent substantial evidence" of any threats of harm or kidnapping to Becker's children, ages 6 and 1. The judge suggested any court records concerning trade secrets and security should be sealed. He also suggested that the 24- hour security that Becker provides for his family continue. He ordered the sides to draft an order that he would approve.

"He showed no sign of any stress or discomfort." The first day, he stayed close to the door and retreated to his cage a few times. "Remember, he has his TV, have this balancing test" between the public's right to information and his request for privacy, Gross said. Earlier in the day, Becker told the judge he was concerned for his family's safety. "I'm afraid for the lives of my children and of my wife," Becker said. The tennis celebrity also said confidentiality clauses in his business contract forbid him from discussing his financial information.

"I would commit a breach of contract if I talk about any contract of which I am a part of," he said. "It is not publicly known how much I do or do not make and this gives rise to the fantasies of criminals. Barbara Becker's attorneys had said earlier that privacy considerations should be judged on a document by document basis. Her lawyers challenged Becker's claim that the children would be at greater risk of injury or harm with open proceedings. They said in court papers that Noah and Elias are always protected by security guards while in the United States.

Becker said he has received threats against his family since 1985, when he first won Wimbledon. He said he received three to four threatening letters per month. "I did receive one two years ago doing the tournaments on Key Biscayne. I received a kidnapping threat against my children," he said through a translator. He said the threat was seeking ransom money.

Outside the courthouse, dozens of journalists, many of them German, gathered outside as the hearing was under way. "It's front page, definitely," said Arthur Landwehr, a Washingtonbased correspondent from German Public Radio. And noting Germany's fascination with Becker's troubled marriage, he said, "speaking German during an American event it doesn't happen too often." Barbara Becker, 34, has not filed for a divorce, but has obtained a court order requiring the children to stay in South Florida. Boris Becker, 33, filed for divorce in Germany last month, seeking to end the couple's sevenyear marriage.
