ARTHUR LITCHFIELD Arthur Litchfield, 87, Fort Myers Beach, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, after a short illness. Barney retired to Fort Myers Beach in 1971 from Pittsburgh, where he owned and operated his own fire fighting equipment business. He was active in the Fort Myers Beach Blue Lodge A.M., the Araba Shrine Temple, the Fort Myers Beach Shrine Club, Kiwanis Club and Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church. Barney is survived by his wife, Adelle Dixon Litchfield, of Fort Myers Beach, and his daughter, Joan Marik, of Washington D.C.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 7th, at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Ron Salfen officiating. MCDONALD Velma C. McDonald, 82, of Fort Myers died Jan. 2, 1997. Born Mar. 16, 1914 in Chokoloskee, she was a lifelong resident of Fort Myers and a member of McGregor Baptist Church.

Mrs. McDonald is survived by her son, J. Carl McDonald, Jr. and his wife Grace, of Fort Myers; two sisters: Ann McCollum of Fort Myers and 1 Marguerite Aldacosta of Marathon; two grandchildren: J.C. McDonald 111 of Fort Myers and Jeff C.

McDonald of Orlando. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. James O. Holbrook officiating.

(KECK) RUTH JoAnn Allen, 67, of Cape Coral, died Friday, January 3, 1997, home. A resident of Cape Coral lies the past nine years, Mrs. Allen born in Athens, Ohio, and moved to Florida from Akron, Ohio.

She was a member of Life Church in Fort Myers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Allen, in 1983. Survivors include her two sons, David W. Allen and wife Tammy of Fort Myers and Mark R. Allen of Cape Coral; one daughter, Shirley R.

Allen of Cape Coral; two sisters, Lucille Bullock of Columbus, Ohio, and Betty McAlarney of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Allen, and numerous nieces and nephews. RIDA J. BAUMBAUGH Lee County JO ANN ALLEN Rida J. Baumbaugh, 70, of Marion, died Saturday, January 4, 1997, in Fort Myers, where she had spent a portion of her winters for the last five years. Before retiring in 1986, Mrs. Baumbaugh taught elementary school in the Marion, area for 18 years.

She was past president and member of the Marion General Hospital Auxillary and a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Marion, Ind. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Marvin Baumbaugh; three sons, Bruce Sweetser, Cregg of Seattle, and Gregg of Noblesville, and six grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Cypress Lake Presbyterian Church in Fort Myers for her family and friends in Florida. Vandivier had resided here for the past 40 years. Mr. Vandivier was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Villas Wesleyan Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America, and Franklin F. A.M.

Lodge Mr. Vandivier was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Frazier in 1992. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Naomi; three daughters, Lynn (Jim) Yates, Beth Ann (Randy) Swanson, and Betty Jo (Randy) Kensell; one sister, Wilma Whitaker of Franklin, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 7, 1997, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. More obituaries 6B MONROEVILLE, Pa. Marie Torre, a New York Herald Tribune columnist and television anchor in Pittsburgh and later the host of television and radio shows in New York, died Friday at age 72. Torre died after a long battle with lung cancer and pneumonia.

As a columnist for the New York Herald Tribune, Torre earned the nickname "The Joan of Arc" of her profession when she was jailed for 10 days in January 1957 for refusing to identify a source for a story about a CBS television show starring Judy Garland. The show was canceled because of trouble with Garland. Torre, of the New York City borough of Brooklyn, came to Pittsburgh in 1962 as an anchor for KDKA-TV, and also was the host of the "Contact" talk show and "The Better Half" interview show. Torre's first husband, Hal Friedman, died in 1971. She returned to New York in 1977 as a television host, married Ernest Tark in 1985 and worked in television and radio in 1 Wilmington, Del.

Tark died in January 1995. Torre was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1994 but kept working. "She continued doing her radio talk show despite getting chemotherapy once a week. Nobody at the station knew about it until she was hospitalized with pneumonia in August," said her daughter, Roma Torre Lopez, also a broadcast journalist.
