Formerly of Lake Orion, Mr. Vander Haagen had resided here for the past 20 years and was a member of he Fort Myers Congregational United Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; two sons, Gary Vander Haagen of Ann Arbor, Bruce Vander Haagen of Pinckney, three daughters, Mary Lynn Balten of Rochester, Patricia Di Bernardo of Napervilie, and Debra Keusch of Clarkston, one sister, Aleda Van Loo of Grand Haven, one brother, Gerrit Vander Haagen of Spring Lake, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 6, 1997, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fort Myers Congregational United Church of Christ, 82 10 College Pkwy.

COLONIAL BOULEVARD 934-0555 Columnist Marie Torre dies at 72 The Associated Press MONROEVILLE, Pa. Marie Torre, a New York Herald Tribune -columnist and television anchor in Pittsburgh and later the host of tele-; vision and radio shows in New York, died Friday at age 72.

Torre died after a long battle with lungcancerandpneumonia. As a columnist for the New York Herald Tribune, Torre earned the nickname "The Joan of Arc" of her profession when she was jailed for 1 0 -days in January 1957 for refusing to identify a source for a story about a CBS television show starring Judy Garland. The show was canceled -because of trouble with Garland. Torre, of the New York City bo- rough of Brooklyn, came to Pittsburgh in 1962 as an anchor for KDKA-TV, and also was the host of the "Contact" talk show and "The Better Half interview show. Torre's first husband, Hal Friedman, died in 1971.

She returned to New York I in 1977 as a television host, married Ernest Tark in 1985 and worked in tele- vision and radio in Wilmington, DeL Tark died in January 1995. Torre was diagnosed with lung cancerinl994butkeptworking. "She continued doing her radio talk show despite getting chemothe- rapy once a week. Nobody at the sta- tion knew about it until she was hospi- talized with pneumonia in August," 1 said her daughter, Roma Torre Lopez, also a broadcast journalist Ruth, 49, of Fort Myers, died suddenly at Southwest Regional Hospital on Jan. 1, 1997.

Formerly of Pleasantville, N.J., she relocated to Fort Myers 20 years ago, where she was a licensed real estate agent as well as an interior designer. She was most recently employed at Express Blinds of Fort Myers. Survivors include her children: Donna Mundt and husband Greg of Texas, Dawn Keck of Fort Myers, and Donald Keck of Alaska; her grandchildren: Derek and Heather Mundt, and Ashley Pruchnicky; her mother and stepfather. Alma and Al Lodovico; brothers: Larry Ruth and wife Pamela of Fort Myers, and Lenny Ruth and wife Michelle of Palm Bay, and nieces and nephews: Kim, De-siree, David, and Michael Ruth. She was preceded in death by her father, William Ruth.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, 11 a.m., St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, with a reception following. ARTHUR "BARNEY" LITCHFIELD Arthur "Barney" Litchfield, 87, of Fort Myers Beach, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, after a short illness. Barney retired to Fort Myers Beach In 1971 from Pittsburgh, where he owned and operated hisown fire fighting equipment business. He was active in the Fort Myers Beach Blue Lodge 362, A.M., the Araba Shrine Temple, the Fort Myers Beach Shrine Club, KiwanisClub and Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church. Barney is survived by his wife, Ad-elle Dixon Litchfield, of Fort Myers Beach, and his daughter, Joan Marik, of Washington D.C.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 7th, at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Ron Salfen officiating. MCDONALD Velma C. McDonald, 82, of Fort My-' ers died Jan. 2, 1997. Born Mar. 16, 1914 in Chokoloskee, she was a lifelong resident of Fort Myers and a member of McGregor Baptist Church.

Mrs. McDonald is survived by her son, J. Carl McDonald, Jr. and his wife Grace, of Fort Myers; two sisters: Ann McCollum of Fort Myers and Marguerite Aldacosta of Marathon; and two grandchildren: J.C. McDonald III of Fort Myers and Jeff C.

McDonald of Orlando. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. James O. Hoi-brook officiating.

2, 1997. Son of Grace Scott Neville and Hayward E. Neville, he was born on August 31, 1921, in Kilbourne, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Williams Neville; sons, Maynard Jr. (Sonny) and Scott Neville, and beloved granddaughter, Laura Neville, daughter of Scott and Linda Neville.

He was a graduate of Ohio State University, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre where he rose to the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army Field Artillery. He was employed by the DuPont Company in Wilmington, from which he retired in 1985 after more than 37 years of service. At RALPH B.VANDIVIER Ralph B.

Vandivier, 76, of Fort Myers, died Saturday, January 4 1997. Formerly of Franklin, Mr. Vandivier had re-Sided here for the past 40 years. Mr. Vandivier was a Navy veteran of WW II.

He was a member of the Villas Wesleyan Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America, and Franklin F. A.M. Lodge 107. Mr. Vandivier was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Frazier in 1992.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Naomi; three daughters, Lynn (Jim) Yates, Beth Ann (Randy) Swanson, and Betty Jo (Randy) Kensell; one sister, Wilma Whitaker of Franklin, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 7, in the Chapel of the Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ramoska is survived by four sons, Ronald, Richard, Michael, Kenneth; two daughters, Barbara, Mary; 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael, and a sister, Alice. She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael. He attended officer's training school at Camp Smith in Peekskill, N.Y.

He was a manufacturing manager with G.M. for over 33 years in Lock-port, N.Y. Memberships include: Officer of the General Motors G9 Man-agementClub, N.R.A. James was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Eugene Beaver, and brother, Bruce (Carol) of Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marian; three brothers-in-law, Alvin, Martin, Earl Smith, all of Medina, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Jeannie Reckahn; and several nieces and nephews.

She was past president and member of the Marion General Hospital Auxiliary and a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Marion, Ind.
