SCIORTINO, JOSEPHINE (JO), 75, of Cape Coral, died Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial Monday. Arrangements by Cape Coral Memorial Funeral Home. James Scott, 69, journalist KANSAS CITY, Mo. James Scott, former vice president and editorial page editor at The Kansas City Star, died Thursday during heart surgery.

He was 69. Scott worked at The Star for four decades before retiring in May 1 993. He was named associate editor in 1968 and editorial page editor in 1977. He became vice-president in 1 987. After retirement, Scott continued writing twice-monthly editorials.

He is survived by his wife, Sammy, and three sons. The Associated Press DEATHS ELSEWHERE Robert Shelton, 69, former music critic BRIGHTON, England Robert Shelton, a former music critic with The New York Times who championed the talents of Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin, died of a stroke Monday. He was 69. Shelton joined the Times in the mid-1950s and went on to review the young folk and country singers playing in New York's Greenwich Village in the 1960s. He moved to England in the late '60s.

He helped launch Joplin's career, and supported Judy Collins, Jose Fe-liciano, the Mothers of Invention and Peter, Paul and Mary as well. glon Post 136. He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Diane M. (Daniel Mel-chert of Bloomingdale, three sons, Duncan B. (Paula Tracy of McHenry, James P.

(Tisa Covington) Herold of San Jose, Michael H. (Dianne Herold of Aurora, brother, William J. (Elaine Herold of Geneseo, and six grandchildren, Sean, Kimberly, Henry, J.D., Nlcholasand Llndsey. Service of Remembrance will be held Monday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m.

WILLIAM "BILL" HOLTZ William "Bill" Holtz, 82, of Lehigh Acres, died December 15, 1995, at his residence under the care of Metro Home Health and his loving wife, Henrietta. Bill retired after 32 years of service with U.S.

Steel, Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to Lehigh Acres in 1972. He was an avid golfer at Mirror Lakes and the Lehigh Resort courses. He Is survived by his wife, Henrietta; one son, William, two daughters, Joan Hinerman, Loreene Weed. He was the step-father of Carol Meszaros, Jeanne Connors, and Joanne Stevens and was a grandfather and great-grandfather. Also survived by one sister, Adeline Cerovac.

369-2181 CHARLES VERYLICKES Lt. Col. Ret. Charles Veryl Ickes, 77, passed away December 15, 1995, In Orange Park, Fla. Lt.

Col. Ickes was born in Altoona, and for 14 years was owner of the Sunshine Card Shop with his wife, Dorothy, In Fort Myers, Fla. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a highly decorated soldier serving with the U.S. Army during WWII, Korea and the Vietnam Conflict. He is survived by his son, Charles V.

Ickes II of Orange Park, two daughters, Sondra Ickes of Winter Park, Carroll Monaghan of Sidney, Iowa; two brothers, Donald of Pittsburgh, Penna. and James Malcolm Ickes of Canton, Ohio; six grandchildren. She is survived by two sons: Norman and Austin; five grandchildren: David and Kathleen Kerr of St. Paul, Kathleen Kerr of Los Angeles, Julie Kerr of New York City, and Jonathan Kerr of Worthington, Ohio. CECILE ROSE LEPAGE Cecile Rose Lepage, age 85, a resident of Fort Myers, for three years, formerly of Burlington, VT, passed away on Friday, Dec. 15, 1995, aftera long Illness. Mrs. Lepage was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in S.

Burlington, VT. She was the wife of the late John M. Lepage for 16 years, preceding her in death in January, 1956. She was also preceded In death by her parents, David Labombard and Arthemise (Giard) Labombard. In 1972, Mrs.

Lepage retired from the New England TelephoneCompany after 28 years of service. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn L. Wiley and her husband William of Fort Myers, FL; two sons, Ar-mand C. Lepage and his wife M. Havi of Fairfax, VA, and John C.

Lepage, M.D., of Columbus, OH; a sister, Edna Plant of Burlington, VT; six granddaughters, Melanle Chaput of Charlotte, VT, Karen and Ellen Lepage, both of Columbus, OH; Simone Lepage of Belchertown, MA, and Kather-ine and Lindsay Wiley, both of Fort Myers, FL; two great-grandchildren, Paul Murrin of Columbus, OH, and Caitlln Chaput of Charlotte, VT, and several nieces and nephews of Vermont and Quebec City, Canada. A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1995, at Cypress Lake United Methodist Church in Fort Myers at 11 a.m., with Rev. Barbara B. Mayo officiating.

A memorial service will also be held in Burlington, VT, at a later date, with inurnment following at Resurrection Park Cemetery in S. Burlington, VT. THERESAS. NELSON Theresa S. Nelson, 65, of Lehigh Acres died Dec. 14, 1995 at East Pointe Hospital. Theresa was born Jan.

10, 1930 in Allenstown, N.H., to the late Oliva and Annie Grandmont Mont-miny. A 32-year resident of Hooksett, N.H., she was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church. After moving to Lehigh Acres, she became a mem-beratSf. Raphael CatholicChurch.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Harlan C. Nelson, two sons: Harlan C. (Linda) Nelson III of Hooksett, N.H., and Bruce G. (Lisa) Nelson of Manchester, N.H.; two daughters: Sandra (Robert) Nolet of Hooksett, N.H., and Nadine (Leon) Ellsworth of Lehigh Acres; eight grandchildren: Kimberly and her husband Ted, both serving in the Air Force, Christopher, Jason, Dana, Bryan, Ashley, Alyssa, and Jennifer; four brothers: Wilfred, Eugene, Norman, and George; and five sisters: Lillian, Gertrude, Florence, Irene, and Constance. She is survived by her daughters: Joanne (Terry) King and Jo (William) Foley; brother, James Dlvita; sister, Frances Romano; three grandchildren: Karen (Dean) Tomlinson, Tom (Chris) King, and Susan King; three great-grandchildren: Jennifer, Jason, and Michael. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter, sister Elizabeth, and a grandson, Donald. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Monday, 11:00 a.m., from St. Andrew's Catholic Church with entombment in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery to follow. Swanson, 56, husband of Susan Swanson, St. James City, formerly of New Fairfield, died on Dec. 16, 1995. He was the son of Gerald A. Swanson and Katherine McBath Swanson.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was Regional Mgr. of the New Milford Div. of Home Oil and then Retail Mgr.

of the New Canaan both subsidiaries of Mobil Oil Corp. He later became Service Mgr. for the B.J. Dolan Co. in Bethel, until 1990 when it was purchased by PETRO Corp.

He was Past Master of Eureka Lodge Chapter 83 Masonic Lodge, Charter member of Bethel Kiwanis Club, Past Member of Rlchter Mens Club, Past Co-Chairman of the New Fairfield Chapter of Westconn Reg. Hospice, Friend of Candlewood Theater, and American Legion Post 136 in St. JamesCity. He Is also survived by his parents, Stanley and Katherine Thompson; four children, Gerald, Craig, Rebecca, and Katrina; two sisters, Helen Hedden and Gloria Hudson; brother, Keil Thompson. Funeral services will be held in Connecticut.

A native of Florida, David was born In Sebring, and has been a life long resident of Fort Myers. He graduated with the Fort Myers High School Class of 1968 and attended Edison Commu-nityCollege. David accomplished the high honor of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Methodist church. David was an excellent plumber and held a Lee County Journeyman license.

He was employed by Tedder Distributor for ten years, was an accomplished trim carpenter, a Lee County fireman, and a Dewey Transport driver. Most recently, he was one of Carroll Oil Company's best transport drivers. In touching the lives of so many, David will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Never without a smile, his optimistic nature was like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. His personality bubbled which made him the life of every party.

He loved entertaining and never met a stranger. Leaving to cherish his loving memories are his wife of 23 years, Dorothy (Milson) Allen; his parents, Rev. William and Rose Allen of Oglethorpe, his two sisters, Caroline Burdette of Fort Myers and Donalie Belcher of Perry, his loving daughter and son, Denise Hamlin-Pauley and James Branca and his wife Patti, all of Fort Myers; and his only grandson, Brandon Scott Pauley. He Is also survived by his father- and mother-in-law, Edward (Bud) and Doris Milson of Fort Myers, and eight nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted by Phil Kiser Funeral Home at 9231 Cypress Lake Drive on Tuesday, December 19, 1995, with his father, Rev.

A retired ward clerk for Cape Coral Hospital, she had resided here for the past 30 years, formerly of Bloomington, Minnesota. She was also retired from the Personnel Department of the Lee County School Board and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Eide was Past President of the Personnel Association of Southwest Florida, Past Vice-President of Florida Association of School Personnel Administrators and received her B.S. from Milwaukee-Downer College (Lawrence University).

She is survived by two sons, Peter J. Eide (Laura) of Ellicott City, Maryland, and David J. Eide (Yelitza) of Orlando, a daughter, Janet Eide O'Neil of Brunswick, Maine; a sister, Flora C. Gunsolley of Altoona, Wise, and 8 grandchildren, including Cheryl Kiesel (Ray) of Fort Myers. Memorial service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m.
