Members of the Charlotte Ichiban Bonsai Kai Club elected new officers at its last meeting. Five boat and yacht clubs from around the county recently participated in the second race of the Charlotte Harbor Interclub Racing Series held in Charlotte Harbor. The event featured 48 sailboats that raced in four divisions cruising class A and and racing class A and B. Sailboats over 29 2 feet participated in Class A and those under 29 2 feet participated in Class B. Members of the Punta Gorda Boat Club took first place in three of the four classes. Winners were: Hank Page in Cruising Class Bill Maclntyre in Cruising Class and Don Joseph in Racing Class A.

Don Hesselman of the Punta Gorda Sailing Club took first place in Racing Class B. The first race in the series was held in November. The next race in the series will be held on Feb. 23 and will be sponsored by the Platinum Point Yacht Club. MaryHawkisa News-Press staff writer.

Valerie Stratico won the award for having the hog with the greatest weight gain. "Many months of hard work went into the raising of their animals and they deserve recognition of their accomplishments," said Debbie Glauer, Charlotte County 4-H coordinator. Performing at the reunion will be the band '57 Chevy. The event will include a hula hoop contest, as well as costume and dance contests. Proceeds raised will go to the group's education foundation. The fund provides local scholarships not only for high school students, but for working women to advance themselves in business or to assist women returning to the work force, a news release said. Decorations for the event will be reminiscent of a 1 960s sock hop and will include a pair of pants donated by Paul Anka.
