Myers Memorial Gardens) spaces subject to availability ANDERSON Fred G. Yelton former Madison County Superior judge remembered for his antics both on and off the bench, died of a heart attack Thursday in Cheyenne, Wyo. He was 73.

He served as a Madison County judge from 1967 to 1970. Many remember him as an individual thinker who was proud and confident. During the Ex -Cell-O Corp. strike in Elwood in 1970, Yelton signed a an injunction preventing nonunion laborers from stopping the union laborers from coming to work. Local authorities would not serve the injunction.

"He went there armed with a gun and forced his injunction at gunpoint," said Yelton's son, Geoffrey, 44. "I didn't go home from school for several days after that because of threats of our house being firebombed." He is also remembered for an injunction he signed forcing teachers to go back to work during the 1968 strike. That ruling was upheld by the Supreme Court. Lara, the French director known for his caustic jabs at bourgeois society and his right-wing political stances late in life, died early Saturday. He was 98.

One of France's most prolific directors, Autant-Lara directed more than 30 films, many of them classics of 1940s and 1950s French cinema. Born in 1901 to an architect father and an actress mother, Autant-Lara discovered the cinema while studying at France's prestigious School of Fine Arts. He made his first short films in the 1920s before heading to Hollywood in the 1930s to supervise the French versions of Buster Keaton films, among others. Some of his best-known works include "Le Rouge et le Noir," or "The Red and the Black," based on Stendahl's novel, and "La Traversee de Paris," or "Four Bags Full," an account of two men stealthily crossing Paris at night during the German occupation.
