Fort Myers (Fla.) News-Press, Oct. 29, 1972 lo-B I 1 Rose Kosches: Writes, Lives Beauty By BETSY ZEISS the Cape Coral Public Lf-r- and a poetry reading in the" round session, with her to them the myriad ways in which they can express this feeling. Designed and illustrated by sher, the booklet consists of several dozen poems about which she says, "They express a people-to-people thing.

In times of anxiety, frustration and chaos, people need to hold hands to bolster one another. Somehow trials are easier to take if you know someone else is experiencing them. The gifted and impeccably groomed Mrs. Kosches, a resident of Cape Coral, is generally locally as a teacher of creative writing and English literature at Edison Community College, as a former president of the American Association of University Women, and current president of the congregation of Temple Beth-El a first for a woman in the state of Florida. Persons who are less well informed might nonetheless remember that she has enthusiastically guided local students in Europe for five summers or that she sang in the Southwest Florida Opera Association's "Madame Butterfly" last season.

They might even have spotted her in the Fort Myers Symphony chorus. Closer friends are aware that she was trained for the concert stage and today considers the baby grand piano that her late husband gave her as a wedding present her most treasured possession. other as well as with the children in the family. Since French, German and English were spoken in her home, her ear early in life became attuned to the nuances and intonations of several tongues. It is this same feeling for language its rhythm and its melody that she en-, courages her students to grasp as the essence of communication.

"Good grammar can come later," she explains. "The important thing is to keep the ideas flowing." One of her techniques for doing just this is to turn an event Into a happening. How many people besides Rose Kosches have a christening party for a Siamese cat, with invitations sent in three languages? Or pause at the grave of Elizabeth Barrett Browning long enough to recall some of the events in her life and to think upon the verse she wrote? How many people number among their good friends the clergy of half a dozen denominations as well as the community's leaders in both education and the arts? In praise of this situation, Mrs. Kosches remarks, "We have a unique community. When we get too large, we lose touch.

The joy of maturing is to know yourself but not at the expense of others. Here the community leaders in the various disciplines support one another." She flashed a smile, "One of the beautiful things about life is that creative expression is a part of everyday living. Your reaction to the sights and sounds, to the people, to the beauty of life. They are fundamental to all living." It is this awareness that Mrs. Kosches seeks in her own zest for living and tries to develop In her students by demonstrating to them the many ways in which they can find loveliness and joy in the most mundane activity, at the same time pointing out The Golden Era of Caribbean Cruising to iisipiteBi 4 tV SAN JUAN ST.
