Fort Myers News-Press, Director Named For Chamber Of Commerce By BOB SCHOFIELD News-Press Bureau Chief PUNTA GORDA Theodore E. Rabb, 54, a veteran chamber of commerce executive, has been named executive director of the Greater Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce. Ray Stephens, president of the Charlotte chamber, said Rabb would start work here on Aug. 1. He replaces George B.

"We (the chamber board) decided that what we'd do this time is pack a veteran 'chamber man," Stephens said. Rabb has held the Dunkirk post for the last 14 years, according to Stephens. Stephens said Rabb was on vacation in Southwest Florida when a friend informed him of the impending vacancy in Charlotte County.

"He came by the office to talk to us about it," Stephens said. Rabb was picked from among five applicants for the post, according to Stephens. During the two months the chamber will function without an executive director, Stephens said Betty Faulk will serve as acting executive director. Mrs. Faulk was assistant executive director under Nanna.

Nanna quit the post in a disagreement with the directors. He said the directors were responsible for recruitment of members, and the directors said they felt the job was his. Nanna and the directors related the same details of their disagreement. The chamber also might suffer the loss of Stephens, its president. Stephens has announced his resignation as president of the Barnett Bank in Port Charlotte, and said he is considering "three or four None of the offers are in Charlotte County, according to Stephens.

But he said 'he might choose to remain in Charlotte County if he finds a better opportunity here. Nanna had agreed to serve as executive director fo two years, but he complained that directors of the organization approved a budget higher than the dues contributions of its members, and didn't recruit sufficient members to meet that budget. The chamber of commerce will meet at 7:45 a.m. this morning in Charlotte County Memorial Auditorium. NEWS-PRESS News, Ads Circulation For The Record ST.

In other action Tuesday, commissioners: Formally agreed to sign a lease agreement with the YMCA so that organization can use a county-owned building in Charlotte Harbor for youth purposes. Decided to ask Sheriff Jack Bent to offer his opinions about enforcibility of county ordinances where appropriate before commissioners vote on adopting ordinances. The YMCA will be able to lease the building formerly used as a teen center on Edgewater Drive for three years at a cost of $1 per year, according to the lease agreement. The lease agreement specificially instructs the YMCA that it must operate a "youth recreation center" and nothing else in the building. The YMCA plans a complex in that area and hopes to use this building as a start in offering programs in a permanent location, something the group has not been able to do before.
