Scranton said Eisenhower in- dicated he knew the governor was not interested in running for the presidency. Scranton continued: "But he said the national scene now was such that he felt a number of persons thought that I should be the candidate, and that he thought ought to give a good deal of thought to this matter and think deeply on the subject in view of the change in the current circumstances nationally." 4 Die in Attempted Robbery of Church (Continued from Page One), they said, and he faked death, falling to the floor and waiting until he had a chance to duck out for help. Deputy chiefs George Stewart and Albert Cavan told reporters later that when the men arrived they found Mercier dead and the would-be robbers had fled upstairs.

One was "talked down" by Detective Tom Flannigan "with some persuasion." Apparently he had tried to reach a third fire escape, but by this time the rectory was surrounded. When police reached the second floor, they found Miss Guidon's On the same floor, near the steps leading to the third floor, was the body of Binette, shot through the head. The two injured women were in their third floor apartment. Police did not fire a shot, said the deputy chiefs.
