They also remained active in retirement, volunteering for four years at Puebla Christian School in Mexico and continuing to enjoy planning and taking trips as long as they were able. Bernie was generous with his time and skills to help a friend or neighbor fix anything. Despite his quiet demeanor, he was admired and loved by everyone who knew him. Konowitch 87, of Estero passed away August 21, 2012 at Life Care Center of Estero. Jay was born in Wild-wood, NJ on May 26, 1925 a son of Jacob and Florence (Wirkman) Konowitch. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Jay was a graduate of The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

He owned and operated South Jersey Sales for over 25 years. Jay is survived by his loving wife, Theresa R. "Terre" Konowitch; two children, Paul A. Konowitch and his wife, Judith of Irvington, NY and Sally B. Cohen and her husband, Martin of Ridge-field, CT.
